Statistical Survey of Showa High School Library in Tokyo

The author, the librarian, shows the reading trend of students in her school library which symbolizes the general trend of reading habits of high school students in this country. The author has analyzed circulation records of the last ten years between 1962 and 1971 and compared difference of reading tastes between boys and girls by subjects and by grades.

The survey shows that the reading tastes of the girls is inclined to humanities particularly to the field of pure literature while that of boys spreads over various subject fields. In conclusion, the author stresses the need of reinforcement of the library resources to meet increasing demands of integrated studies.
